World Autism Acceptance Week was at the beginning of April and there was so much helpful information being shared on socials about how to talk about Autism. One of our favourite Autistic Advocates is Chloé Hayden who according to her website is “motivational speaker, actor, performer, author, influencer, content creator and disability rights activist and advocate. At the heart of all these lies her passion for creating change, celebrating diversity, and pushing towards a better future. Diagnosed as autistic (and ADHD) at the age of thirteen and feeling ostracised from society, Chloe started an anonymous blog to share her feelings and to find a community, and ended up building something bigger than she ever dreamed”.
Chloé shared on socials this powerful post about the correct way to speak about Autism. Chloé posts “Correct autism terminology is something that allistic folk tend to be incredibly uncomfortable with; they’ve learned ‘politically correct’ terminology based on what they believe, without actually considering what they’re actually saying, or the impact it has on the autistic community”.
